Whaleback Nordic Ski Park will be bustling with activity again this weekend as the club hosts the 20th anniversary edition of the Provincial Masters Cross Country Ski races with the Classic style on Saturday, February 10 and the Freestyle event on Sunday, February 11. Both races will begin at 11:00.
Cross Country Masters includes anyone – male or female – over the age of 30. Register in advance for the event. Full information and registration forms are available at www.whalebacknordic.com.
Both Classic and Freestyle races will be 10 kilometres distance with mass starts. Racers are divided into five classes by age, each spanning a decade with Masters V for those 60 years and older.
The trails at the Whaleback Nordic Ski Park are expected to be in top shape since the recent mild weather has not seriously damaged the trail system and the snow forecast for the remainder of the week and weekend should make for excellent conditions. A large turnout is expected including Labrador West’s Alf Parsons who has just returned from the World Master’s Championships in the USA where he won a host of medals. Also expected to compete is Port au Port’s Jack White of the Whaleback Club who attended this year’s World Masters and placed 6th in the 15 km freestyle event.
