This years Cross-country Ski National Championships were held in Canmore, AB and what a place to go for a ski. The World Class ’88 Olympic trails make for a great place for our nations skiers to showcase their talents.
11 of Newfoundland and Labrador’s finest young skiers took part in this year’s event, representing clubs from all over the province including Menihek, Mount Nascopi, Aurora, BMD, and Avalon Nordic. Our 2017 team had many new faces, which have never been to such an enduring event. For five of these young skiers it was their first time attending a national championship and they handled the pressure well.
There was some time required to adjust to the altitude difference between our sea level homes and the altitude of the Rockies. However, as the week went on, our bodies adjusted and performances greatly improved. Another week of racing and we would be taking over the podium!! We capped off the week with our best performances, which are summarized below.
Many thanks to the coaches, volunteers and parents who helped make this happen. Also Thanks to CCNL for their support and our Provincial Government CSSD for travel subsidy support.
