Congratulations to Provincial Ski Team member Hugh Warkentin who competed in the World Junior Trials this past weekend in Mont Saint Anne, Quebec. Hugh competed in three races with his best result coming in the 5km Free style event where he placed third winning the bronze medal in a time of 14:24 (9 seconds behind first place).
Such a great finish in a field of 97 skiers. These races may be the most competitive ski races in the country, as skiers from all over Canada are vying for a single spot at the World Junior Championships. The competition is fierce and a podium finish is a superb result.
After speaking to Hugh, he attributes his success to many hard hours training and a genuine work ethic. He also would like to thank CCNL and Blow Me Down Ski Club for their support and helping him come so far.
Keep up the great skiing Hugh!
